After entering tens of trials this season, we were lucky enough to secure a run at the Norwich Gundog Club One-Day Open held on the beautiful Letheringsett estate in North Norfolk.
After an early start to make sure we arrived in good time, the trial began in thick, lively cover, with game erupting within the first 10 yards. The ground was undulating and the marking was challenging, and by lunchtime—after seeing some very good dogs work—we were down to just four. The very capable gamekeeper then produced a number of high, testing birds from a mini drive.
After two tough retrieves, including an eye-wipe over a great friend’s FTCH dog, the card was called over.
Back at the yard for the presentation, we were absolutely delighted to be awarded First Place and Guns’ Choice, winning the Norwich One-Day Open 2025.
This win also made Harley up to a Field Trial Champion. For anyone who trains gundogs, that title is a truly special milestone—one many of us never realistically dream of achieving. Harley has been an incredible dog for me, and it’s been a huge privilege to stand beside him as he has achieved such remarkable things.
A huge thank-you to everyone who has helped us along the way—none of this would have been possible without you. We’re looking forward to the rest of the season and to seeing what else these fantastic dogs can bring.
